For the second straight season, sophomore David Chan (Singapore/Hale School) of the U-M men's gymnastics team was named an All-American Saturday (April 19) at the Individual Event Finals in Palo Alto, Calif. Chan earned the honor on the pommel horse with a fifth-place score of 14.550. Junior/sophomore Phil Goldberg (Ringgold, Ga./McCallie) earned his first All-America honor as a Wolverine with a fifth-place score of 15.475 on the still rings. Freshman Thomas Kelley (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) earned a 14.700 on high bar, tying for sixth place to be the third member of the Maize and Blue to earn an All-America citation. Sophomore Mel Santander (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional)'s 15.550 on the vault was just shy of All-America honors, finishing in ninth place overall.
